WINTER-IN-THE-SUN
‘Belize-is-Beautiful’ but do you know where it is?
This page has become a tribute to my Father
Malcolm William Shaw who sadly passed away on 7th September 2021.
He did not fulfill his dream of developing 20-acres of land he bought
in Belize but I leave his vision here for all to see.

Warwickshire Agricultural Engineer, Malcolm Shaw, had travelled the world selling his range of tree extractors and saw benches,
and was convinced that English speaking Belize is the country mans’ dream
retirement or holiday home location.
On the Caribbean Sea, wedged between Mexico and Guatemala, Belize boasts the
second largest Barrier reef in the world.
The country
is three time as big as Wales
with 180
miles of coast line.
Malcolm was building his dream African style home, two Rondavels
(round houses) linked with a 30ft x 17ft ‘Palapa’ (dayroom), all raised
several feet off the ground and surrounded by virgin jungle, with a variety
of magnificent palm trees, and hardwoods including Mahogany which is the
Belizean national tree.
One of the attractions of the location, situated near Hopkins village, about
100 miles south of Belize City – is that Electricity (strange 2 x 110 volt
supply) and mains water run along the frontage. And there is a real
possibility of cable television and broadband being available shortly.
Having given up on the notion of growing European type vegetables for local
hotels it is proposed to subdivide 10 acres of the property for residential
development with club house facilities adjacent. (Anyone who fancies
vegetable growing is invited to register their interest).
The climate is mildly tropical; the temperature range October 2015 to April
2017 was 25°
– 31° centigrade.
The hottest and wettest months are June to October, and being on the edge of
the hurricane belt 3 miles inland seemed a good idea when looking for a
property. Iguana Lodge is 3 miles from some of the best beaches in the
country, 5 miles from the Jaguar reserve, and a variety of other places of
great interest are within 30 minutes’ drive.
The main tourist season is November to May,
for December and January early booking is essential.
Most years there is rarely a room available over the Christmas period.
Iguana Lodge Country Estate

house site of 1/3rd acre (1,613 Sq Yds) on an exclusive 10 Acre Development

PLAN
This project has now
been taken over by David Kafka od RE/MAX 1st Choice Belize.
A very well constructed, new road from the Southern
Highway into Hopkins village is now complete.
A range of four types of 2 and 3 bedroom units will be offered by a
recommended local contractor.
The objective is to build a community of country people who share similar
interests.
